I agree whole-heartedly. The idea that we support our local artists is a farce. But hopefully, the public can make it clear to the government that we enjoy these type of public displays and public spaces.

So here's the real question: Obviously, SOMEONE in the liberal party recognizes the value of art and culture, because otherwise, why the heck would they be going to all the trouble and expense of trotting out our rich and amazing arts community?? And if that's the case, how is it that they haven't put two and two together????? Maybe we should have a message written in the sky above the provincial legislature building, or mowed into the front lawn: “Culture matters! Because if it didn't you wouldn't be spending all of this time and energy to make sure that it was front and center during the winter games......."

I'm afraid I'm a member of the choir but I concur wholeheartedly. "Balloons and streamers" do not a long-term investment in the arts make.

I agree. It is like an illusion. Visitors and other folks who are unaware of the funding crisis are treated to public artworks (plus the great concentration of performances during the cultural olympiad) will be under the false impression that the arts community thrives in B.C.
